tl;dv vs Modjo – a tantalizing comparison for sales teams trying to decide upon an AI meeting assistant.

It should be noted straight away that Modjo has no free trial to play with and no free plan to use either. If you want to get started with the tool, you’ll need to give their sales team a call and set up a paid plan. tl;dv, however, has a generous free plan that you can get started with right away.

We’ve done a lot of digging, but sometimes there’s just no information. For these areas, we’ve given them no score and marked it as “not disclosed”. If a simple feature isn’t obvious from an entire website, social media, or YouTube account, then it can only be assumed that it doesn’t exist.

Now, let’s get down to the comparison. On average, sales teams save 5 hours every week by automating day-to-day tasks. But which tool will save your sales team more time: tl;dv or Modjo?

As you can see, tl;dv storms ahead with 134 points to Modjo’s 104. While Modjo fought back with its powerful revenue intelligence and drew level when it came to note-taking and organizational features, tl;dv excelled in everything else.

In particular, tl;dv has better recording features (like the ability to record concurrent meetings for those with busy schedules), customer support, and transparent security policies so you can rest easy.

81% of sales leaders say that AI helps them spend less time on manual tasks. It’s one of the primary reasons that AI is used in the first place, yet it should be noted that for automation and integration, tl;dv scored double the amount of points as Modjo. Modjo suffers from a smaller set of integrations and the inability to automatically send post-meeting summary emails. tl;dv, on the other hand, has 6,000+ integrations, post-meeting summary emails, and a super flexible and versatile AI report scheduler.

It’s also worth noting that tl;dv has a free forever plan that provides unlimited call recordings, transcriptions, and translations, as well as limited AI functionality and basic integrations. Modjo, on the other hand, has no such free plan. In fact, Modjo does not even have a free trial. There is no way to try Modjo without committing to $1,000+ per user per year, and only then after a lengthy set-up process that starts with a dreaded sales call. Conversely, with tl;dv, you can get set up by yourself and have your team recording meetings within the hour.

tl;dv vs Modjo: 12 Factors to Consider While Choosing the Best AI Notetaker

How do we rank?

  • We give 2 points to a platform once it is the clear winner or when the capability is equally met by the other.
  • We give 1 point when the capability is present, but it’s not a winner.
  • We give 0 points when the capability is not present.

Transcriptions Included

tl;dv provides unlimited transcriptions for free. Modjo has no free plan, nor free trial, meaning you have to pay around $100 per month to unlock any transcriptions at all.

Real-time Transcriptions

Modjo supports real-time subtitles in any of its 6 languages, empowering users to read along during their call. This is particularly useful for speakers of a foreign language, but the low number of translation languages is limiting.

Having said that, this real-time functionality is not supported by tl;dv, highlighting a key difference for users who prioritize instant transcription access.

Languages Supported

Modjo features just 6 languages, including English. This is surprisingly low compared to the industry standards.

tl;dv, for example, features translations in more than 40 languages, making it the superior choice for users that require specific languages outside of Modjo’s six.

Dialects Supported

tl;dv offers dialect support for regional speaking users. This means that the AI is more likely to understand and accurately transcribe speech from speakers with a dialect.

Modjo does not provide this feature, causing more inaccurate transcriptions for users of diverse dialects.

Filler Word Removal

Neither tl;dv nor Modjo currently offer filler word removal, a feature that would automatically filter out filler words from your transcript. tl;dv is confirmed to be working on implementing this feature in the near future, making it the better choice if you’re looking for cleaner transcripts.

Transcribe Video/Audio Uploads

Both tl;dv and Modjo provide the functionality to upload video or audio files to transcribe them. However, tl;dv offers 5 uploads completely free of charge, while Modjo makes no such gesture. If you prefer to try before you buy, tl;dv gives you ample opportunity.

Clips From Transcript

Modjo calls these little clips snippets. You can make them easily from the transcript and share them with colleagues. tl;dv also provides users with the ability to make clips and reels and easily share them to let non-attendees see the important bits of a call in bite-sized chunks.

Custom Vocabulary

The ability to incorporate custom vocabulary into transcriptions is an upcoming feature for tl;dv. It aims to make transcriptions more precise and relevant for specialized fields or terminologies.

Modjo offers custom vocabulary already, empowering your team to insert your own specialized jargon into the AI’s dictionary. This will make transcripts cleaner, more accurate, and more personalized.

Edit Transcription

tl;dv lets users edit the transcript directly, fixing minor errors and tidying it up. Modjo doesn’t allow its users to edit the transcription in this way.

Video Platforms

tl;dv is available for Zoom, MS Teams, and Google Meet. If you use either of those three video conferencing platforms, tl;dv will work seamlessly.

Modjo is compatible with the same three, but it’s also available for three more: Apizee, Fuze, and Demodesk. Modjo is also available for telephone apps and diallers like Aircall, Zoom Phone, and more.

Storage

Modjo uses your Google storage, meaning you have to have an account there to store things. That’s not ideal, especially as that requires you to have a separate paid subscription.

tl;dv provides unlimited storage on your behalf, making it an easy place to keep all your recordings. Of course, you can also export them and save them locally if you prefer.

Concurrent Meetings

tl;dv enables its users to record multiple meetings simultaneously. If you have a super busy schedule and find yourself double-booked, or god forbid, triple-booked, tl;dv can join and record all meetings concurrently. You only need to attend one (or none at all) but the bot will record and transcribe everything from every call at the same time.

Modjo does not allow its users to record multiple meetings simultaneously. This identifies a weak spot, especially for busy managers who often need to be in two places at once.

Custom Bot Avatar

tl;dv lets users customize the bot’s avatar for when it joins the meeting. This adds a personal touch and often makes it less intimidating for other participants.

Modjo doesn’t let users personalize their bot avatar.

Multi-Meeting AI Insights

Modjo’s AI has the capacity to review all your sales team’s calls at once and it does this monthly to let you know the most popular objections. You’ll even receive an email (see above) that displays this information in a way that’s super easy to digest. These monthly AI insights are only available if your team makes 100+ calls within the given month.

tl;dv also offers multi-meeting intelligence, including a similar report system. However, with tl;dv, you can also run reports at your leisure. When scheduling them, you can choose how frequently you want the reports too. If you’d rather have them every week, or every fortnight, that’s your call. Additionally, tl;dv empowers the user to select the topic that they’d like to receive regular AI insights on. You can use filters to tell the AI exactly what you want to know and exactly how often.

This can be used similarly to Modjo by providing examples of the most common objections, but it can also be used in a variety of different ways. For example, Product Development can use it to receive regular updates on bugs, or Customer Success could use it to discover patterns in customer behavior.

In this sense, tl;dv is way more flexible and thus earns the extra point.

Sentiment Analysis

tl;dv doesn’t let its AI analyze customer sentiment with things like tone of voice as it strives to be compliant with EU law.

As Modjo is a French company, they are also compliant with the EU AI Act and therefore offer no sentiment analysis.

Speech Analytics

tl;dv provides users with a dashboard for speech analytics, letting sales managers keep track of their sales reps’ talk-to-listen ratio, monologue length, amount of filler words used, and more. Sales reps can also use these analytics themselves to self-assess.

Modjo also provides a speech analytics dashboard with similar sales metrics to track.

CRM Integrations

tl;dv features seven native integrations with popular CRMs like Salesforce and HubSpot, but through its Zapier integration, you’re able to set up a connection with any CRM on Zapier’s integration list. Modjo has seven CRM integrations too, but unfortunately has no Zapier integrations so they stop there.

Zapier Integrations

tl;dv integrates with Zapier, giving users access to a whole host of additional integrations through intuitive zaps. It links tl;dv with thousands of other apps.

Modjo drops the ball here, failing to integrate with Zapier and thus limiting users to the scarce few integrations it has set up natively.

Post-Meeting Summary Email

With tl;dv, you can automatically send post-meeting summaries to all meeting participants. This is great for keeping the whole team up to date with things. It ensures accountability as each participant has the transcript and AI notes. This is particularly useful for internal calls, but it can also be great for sales calls as you’ll get to see when your prospect has rewatched the call. It’s the ideal time to follow-up as you know they’re serious about your product.

Modjo doesn’t allow users to automatically send post-meeting summary emails. If you want to do this, it’ll need to be done manually, taking time and effort that could be better spent elsewhere.

Schedule Reports

With tl;dv, you can schedule recurring reports about any topic of your choice flexibly. You choose the topic and the date, and the report will be there.

With Modjo, you can get monthly reports if your team makes over 100 calls that month. Otherwise, Modjo doesn’t allow you to receive reports. There is no way to customize the reports, filter topics, or select a timeframe. It’s monthly (with 100+ calls) or nothing, and only about objections.

AI Notes

tl;dv and Modjo both automatically provide AI notes. These cover all the important topics from the meeting, as well as action items, questions asked, and any other relevant bits of information.

One benefit for tl;dv here is that it provides 10 AI meeting notes free of charge. It also summarizes the meetings completely free of charge. Modjo, on the other hand, charges upwards of $1,000 per year.

Manual Notes During Calls

tl;dv requires you to use the app to take manual notes, however when doing so, you’re able to jot down things that the AI may not pick up on.

Modjo lets users take manual notes during the call so long as you’re recording the meeting with Modjo’s built-in recorder.

Tag People in Notes

Both tl;dv and Modjo enable tagging so that colleagues that didn’t attend certain meetings can quickly find relevant information to them. These tags will also be pinged via email or Slack to make the whole process even smoother.

Assign Tasks

While neither tl;dv nor Modjo offers a specific feature for assigning tasks, both tools let you tag your teammates which will notify them and draw their attention to the specific note in which they’ve been mentioned. This can technically be used to assign tasks, but it is not as organized as a specific feature.

Comments

tl;dv and Modjo both facilitate comments on the transcript notes. This is great for live collaboration as it works as a central source of truth for the sharing of ideas.

Custom Meeting Templates

Modjo offers the ability to create custom meeting templates for notes, known as Highlights Templates. These templates can be designed and applied to different teams to ensure that relevant information is captured consistently during calls.

tl;dv also provides users with the ability to make preset custom meeting templates and assign them to specific meetings based on predefined criteria. Like Modjo, this works great for sales teams, but it’s also possible to use tl;dv’s custom meeting templates for other teams like Customer Success or even User Research.

Data Retention

Modjo retains user data for as long as they’re a paying customer. However, it can be deleted upon request or change if necessary due to GDPR rules.

tl;dv keeps your calls for 6 months on the free plan. On any paid plan, the data retention is unlimited.

SOC2 Compliant

tl;dv is in the process of becoming SOC2 compliant, indicating its commitment to achieving high standards of security and data protection.

Modjo is already SOC2 compliant, reassuring its users that it follows stringent security practices and supports them with an extra layer of trust and reliability.

EU AI Act Compliant

tl;dv is a German company, while Modjo is French. Both tools adhere to EU law. As such, they are both compliant with the EU AI Act.

Uses Your Data to Train AI

Neither tl;dv nor Modjo allow your data to be used to train AI. They both work with OpenAI, a company that retains data for 30 days for abuse and misuse management only. After 30 days, the data is permanently deleted.

Private Storage

Private storage, a critical feature for organizations prioritizing data sovereignty and security, is available for tl;dv’s Enterprise users. Modjo’s stance on private storage has not been disclosed. This is a potential drawback for users with specific storage needs.

0-Day Data Retention Policy With Vendors

tl;dv maintains a 0-day data retention policy with vendors, emphasizing its stance on minimizing data exposure and ensuring immediate data deletion from third-party services.

Modjo does not disclose its data retention policy with vendors.

AI Scoring

tl;dv allows for personalized performance tracking and development by generating a playbook scorecard against any set of meetings. However, Modjo takes this a step further.

Modjo enables users to pinpoint coaching opportunities instantly through a comprehensive overview of the adoption of your qualification methodology. Its AI scoring lets sales reps self-assess rather than wait around for feedback. It significantly reduces the time spent on call reviews.

Custom Playbooks

tl;dv empowers sales managers to create custom playbooks to help sales reps overcome objections or any other hurdles they’ve been facing during the call. This personalized touch is a great way to integrate sales training.

Despite being a sales platform, Modjo’s only reference of playbooks is the free one that it gives away if you pass over your email address. This is not an integrated feature as such, but a PDF style document. It’s possible that if you break through all the garden fences and purchase a subscription, it may have customized playbook features, but it’s far from guaranteed.

Template Playbooks

Similarly, Modjo doesn’t provide any information about template playbooks.

tl;dv, on the other hand, provides users with a range of different templates to use for your playbooks. From BANT to MEDDIC and everything in between, you can get your playbooks up and running in no time, giving you a proven baseline for your sales reps to aim for.

Objection Handling

Modjo breaks the different objections up into 10 different categories, ranging from “budget and pricing” to “lack of need or interest”. It provides monthly summaries straight to your inbox (if your reps have had 100 sales calls or more during the month in question) which break down the most frequent objections and what you can do to handle them better in the future.

tl;dv also helps with objection handling, though it’s a little less specialized. It’s great for sales managers as it helps them identify what’s stopping reps from closing deals, and it provides the tools to then coach reps on how to improve. It’s possible to schedule recurring reports about objections across all your meetings, too.

Apply Auto-Record of All Meetings in the Team Members’ Calendar

tl;dv enables administrators to apply settings that automatically record all meetings scheduled in team members’ calendars, ensuring comprehensive capture of discussions and decisions without manual intervention.

This feature facilitates complete documentation of team interactions, crucial for accountability and knowledge sharing.

Modjo doesn’t give admins this power. Users can auto-record meetings, but not admins. This can be an issue for sales managers who want to ensure no meetings are skipped from being recorded.

Apply Auto-Share of Meetings Recorded by Team Members

Admins on tl;dv have the option to automatically share meetings recorded by team members, streamlining the distribution of meeting content and enhancing collaboration within the organization.

This automatic sharing ensures that relevant stakeholders have immediate access to recordings, fostering transparency and efficiency.

Modjo does not offer admins an auto-share setting.

Prevent Deletion

tl;dv provides admins with the ability to prevent the deletion of meeting recordings by users, safeguarding against the accidental or intentional removal of valuable meeting content. It’s been known for sales reps to break misconduct rules and intentionally delete the call before their manager could see. With this setting, managers can ensure no call gets deleted without their say so.

This feature is also crucial for maintaining a complete archive of team interactions and decisions.

Modjo doesn’t include an admin setting to prevent the deletion of recordings, posing a risk to data retention and historical reference.

Admin Rights Over All Recordings

With both tl;dv and Modjo, the admin has rights over all recordings. This means that admins can review, share, or delete calls not made by them.

You can organize these further by creating folders in both tl;dv and Modjo. This is great for teams that want to stay on top of things.

Additionally, when you pull up an individual call transcript, both tools enable you to search for specific meeting moments within the transcript too. There’s no separating tl;dv and Modjo here!

Modjo has no free plan, so don’t expect any free support. There is a help section on their website with a mini Wiki for how certain things work, and there is an email to contact them.

tl;dv provides both email and live chat support for free users, giving two distinct options for support at any moment.

Priority Support

As Modjo does not have subscription tiers, you may need to specify priority support when you are negotiating your contract.

In tl;dv’s Pro Plan, users unlock priority support which provides an enhanced level of customer support.

Forecasting

tl;dv does not provide any features relating to revenue intelligence, including sales forecasting.

Modjo is a powerful sales tool that specializes in revenue intelligence. It gives you a clear view of your pipeline health and helps you make data-driven decisions about your sales strategy.

Deal Execution

Modjo offers a feature known as Modjo Deals which is all about prioritizing the pipeline, identifying coaching opportunities, and forecasting with laser focus. It connects directly with your CRM to provide you with deal warnings, summaries, and even an AI chatbot to ask anything about your deal.

tl;dv does not offer any features related to deal execution.

Best suited for whom🟢 SMB Sales🟢 Sales Enterprise

tl;dv and Modjo are both sales-oriented tools, but Modjo is built with large enterprises in mind, while tl;dv is more targeted towards SMB Sales teams. tl;dv has a more flexible approach so it can be used organization-wide, whereas Modjo is a specific sales-only tool. This could be the key differentiator between them: tl;dv is versatile, but Modjo is not.

Having said that, they both score a respectable 4.7/5 on G2, but it’s worth pointing out that tl;dv has around 5x the amount of reviews.

tl;dv is super easy to get started with. You can be up and running in a couple of minutes. You’ll be greeted by a tutorial that guides you through the UI intuitively. Modjo, however, forces you to arrange a sales call (which can take a few days on its own), then they’ll show you a product demo and discuss your needs as a user. The actual setting up could be weeks later.

And don’t expect a free trial with Modjo either. It’s off the table. No free trial, no free plan: subscribe or nothing. tl;dv is the perfect counterbalance to this as it provides all its core features for free. Unlimited call recordings, transcripts, translations, and limited AI usage is all available without having to commit to anything. It’s a stark contrast.

Finally, tl;dv has a localized platform in 7 languages, making it brilliant for multinational teams. Modjo’s 6 languages are impressive too, but it’s unfortunate that their transcript translations only work in the same 6 languages.

In this battle between tl;dv and Modjo, we’ve dived headfirst into the specifics of each tool, from their automation capabilities to their sales coaching features.

Ultimately, the decision between tl;dv and Modjo comes down to your unique business needs. Only you know what you require. We can just show you the features side by side.

The detailed analysis reveals that tl;dv is certainly the more versatile tool. It is geared towards sales teams, yes, but it can also be used by any other team, from Product to CS and even UX. It’s easier to set up, transcribes in more than 7x more languages, and features an intuitive multi-meeting intelligence solution.

Where tl;dv truly shines is its innovative AI report scheduler (that can be done on any topic as frequently as you want). It also integrates with 6,000+ tools where Modjo doesn’t even have 100 integrations.

Modjo does have its strengths, however. Its revenue intelligence feature, Modjo Deals, is an excellent addition that helps users review their pipeline and manage deal health. It allows users to forecast with accuracy and move prospects further down the pipeline with each call.

Modjo’s note taking features were also of high quality, matching tl;dv tit for tat.

As you consider the outcome of our battle, tl;dv vs Modjo, consider what your organization truly needs. Which of the categories on this list are most important to you? Try out the features to see for yourself, if you can.

Whichever AI meeting assistant you choose, you’re about to save your organization time and energy which can be used to create something incredible. Good luck!
