People spend up to a third of their week in meetings, which is why tl;dv vs Otter.ai is still one of the comparisons people make when choosing between AI meeting assistants.

Both cover recording, transcription, summaries, and AI search. tl;dv also has full video recording, support for 30+ languages, multi-meeting AI, CRM automation, and sales coaching. Otter still stands out for live transcription and lower pricing, but it has expanded with bot-free desktop recording, MCP, AI Chat Connectors, and Live Assist.

This comparison covers the current features, pricing, security, integrations, and plan limits for both tools.

October 2026 update: I retested Otter’s bot-free desktop recording and its MCP connection with ChatGPT. I also checked its latest pricing, AI Chat Connectors, Live Assist, and plan limits for this update.

Otter now calls itself a “Conversational Knowledge Engine,” reflecting its move beyond transcription into meeting search, connected data, and AI workflows.

Google Meet users: please read (updated October 2026)

Since March 2026, Google Meet has treated some third-party AI notetaker bots as a potential risk, placing them in a separate admission queue where the default action is to deny entry. Hosts can still admit them manually. Microsoft Teams has introduced similar controls for detected external meeting bots.

Both tools now have bot-free alternatives. tl;dv can record through its desktop app, while Otter’s Mac and Windows desktop apps can detect and record supported meetings without Notetaker joining. Otter also offers a Chrome extension for bot-free Google Meet recording.

tl;dv is the stronger option for teams that need full video, more languages, recurring analysis across calls, CRM field mapping, and structured post-call coaching.

Otter is cheaper and remains particularly good for live transcription. It has also added a lot around that core product, including bot-free recording, MCP, connected AI Chat workflows, and Live Assist.

For teams comparing the two, the biggest differences are now video and language coverage, recurring reports, coaching style, integrations, and where the more advanced features sit in each pricing plan.

Transcriptions illimitées

tl;dv offers unlimited transcriptions on every plan, including free. Otter’s free plan is capped at 300 minutes a month and 30 minutes per conversation, so an hour-long meeting gets cut off. Paid Otter plans raise those limits, with Pro allowing 1,200 minutes a month and up to 90 minutes per conversation.

Transcriptions en temps réel

Otter transcribes live, so you can read along and follow the conversation as it happens. tl;dv doesn’t offer real-time transcription and produces the transcript after the meeting instead.

Prise en charge multilingue

tl;dv supports transcription in 30+ languages, which suits global and multilingual teams. Otter has expanded beyond English and now transcribes in six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese. That covers many teams, but tl;dv still supports far more.

Noms des intervenants

Both platforms show speaker names. tl;dv labels speakers automatically, while Otter needs you to tell it who’s who first so it can recognize those speakers in future conversations.

Dialectes pris en charge

tl;dv recognizes different dialects and accents, which helps transcription accuracy for speakers with regional accents. We couldn’t find equivalent dialect support in Otter.

Transcrire des téléversements vidéo/audio

tl;dv can transcribe uploaded video and audio files. Otter also supports file imports, but Basic is limited to three lifetime imports.

Créer des clips à partir de transcriptions

tl;dv lets you create video clips straight from the transcript, so you can share a specific moment from a meeting. Otter doesn’t offer clips from transcripts.

Filler Word Removal and Custom Vocabulary

Otter automatically ignores common hesitation words such as “um,” “uh,” and “hmm” in its transcripts.

Both tools also support custom vocabulary, although at different plan levels. tl;dv includes it on Business. Otter allows five custom terms on Basic, with much larger team and individual vocabularies on its paid plans.

Enregistre la vidéo

tl;dv records video as well as audio, so you can go back and see screen shares, slides and how people reacted, not just what was said.

Otter records audio itself. For video, it can attach the recording from Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams to the Otter conversation, but only if cloud recording is switched on in that platform. It works, but it depends on your meeting platform’s settings rather than Otter recording the video directly.

Réunions simultanées

tl;dv can record unlimited meetings at the same time, which helps larger teams with overlapping calls.

Otter’s Business plan joins up to 3 meetings at once, which may not be enough for bigger teams with busy calendars.

Télécharger des enregistrements

Both tools let you download recordings. tl;dv lets you download the full video, which is useful for archiving or sharing meetings outside the platform. Otter lets you export a conversation’s audio as an MP3, but not video.

Analyse des visionnages

tl;dv shows viewing analytics for recordings, so you can see how often a recording was watched and by whom.

Otter doesn’t offer viewing analytics for recordings.

Calendrier intégré

Both tools connect to your calendar. Once connected, they can join and record your meetings automatically, and you can choose which meetings get recorded.

Reels

tl;dv lets you turn highlights from different meetings into reels, which is a quick way to share key moments with people who weren’t there. Otter doesn’t offer a similar feature.

Enregistrement sans bot

Both tools can record without adding another participant to the meeting. tl;dv offers bot-free recording through its desktop app.

I tested Otter’s desktop app with Google Meet. It detected the call running in Chrome and offered to start recording locally without Otter Notetaker joining. Otter also has a Chrome extension for bot-free Google Meet recording.

Ask tl;dv vs Otter AI Chat

Données clés fournies par l'IA sur 1 réunion

Both tools let you ask AI questions about an individual meeting.

tl;dv’s Free plan includes 10 Ask tl;dv requests per month. Otter Basic includes 20 AI Chat queries per user per month, with a limit of 3 queries per conversation.

On paid plans, Otter increases the allowance to 50 queries per user on Pro and 200 on Business. tl;dv Pro removes the Ask tl;dv limit and includes unlimited AI meeting notes and Ask tl;dv.

In my Otter test, the summary correctly separated the issue, onboarding target, training request, and lower-priority reporting request. AI Chat also suggested follow-up questions based on the call.

Données clés multi-réunions fournies par l'IA

Both tools can search across more than one meeting.

Otter’s newer AI Chat works across conversations, channels, and folders and shows the sources it used in its answers. That fits with Otter’s wider “Conversational Knowledge Engine” positioning.

tl;dv adds Recurring AI Reports, so the same analysis can run again automatically as new meetings come in rather than being asked manually each time. Its conversational intelligence tools are built around finding patterns across a larger set of calls.

Suivi des mots-clés

tl;dv lets you choose specific terms, such as a competitor name or pricing objection, and track when they come up across all your meetings. Otter automatically pulls out keywords for each conversation, but you can’t set your own terms to track across meetings.

Analyse de la parole

tl;dv gives you detailed speech analytics, including talk time, monologue length and filler word counts, which helps managers see how conversations are going. Otter shows how long each speaker talked as a percentage of the meeting, but doesn’t go deeper than that.

Détection des questions

tl;dv automatically picks out questions asked during a meeting, so important ones don’t get lost when you’re writing up notes or following up.

Otter doesn’t detect questions automatically, so you’d need to scan the transcript or ask Otter’s AI chat to find them.

Intégrations CRM

Both tools connect to Salesforce and HubSpot. tl;dv’s CRM integrations can sync meeting data automatically, while Business adds more detailed CRM field mapping.

Otter’s Pro plan syncs meeting notes to Salesforce and HubSpot. Enterprise goes further and can map AI-generated Insights such as pain points, next steps, and action items into Salesforce Opportunity or HubSpot Deal fields.

Email and AI Chat Connectors

Otter’s integration setup has expanded. Enterprise AI Chat can connect to Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, and Jira. Otter’s newer Work mode can then take supported actions such as drafting a Gmail email, creating a Jira ticket, adding a page to Notion, or creating a file in Google Drive.

tl;dv takes a broader workflow approach, with integrations for moving meeting notes and insights into the tools teams already use, including Slack.

Intégrations Zapier

Both tools connect to Zapier on their Pro plans. That lets you send meeting data to thousands of other apps, such as project management tools, spreadsheets or messaging apps, without any code.

Programmer des rapports IA

tl;dv can schedule AI reports to run across new meetings automatically. For example, a sales manager could get a weekly report showing which prospects mentioned a competitor, without opening individual calls or running the same analysis again each week.

Otter’s AI Chat can search across meetings and connected sources, while Work can take actions in tools such as Gmail, Jira, Notion, and Google Drive. Otter also has automated features such as Weekly Insights and recurring meeting exports, but it does not offer custom recurring cross-meeting AI reports like tl;dv.

MCP

Both tools now have MCP servers.

Otter includes MCP on its free Basic plan. I tested it with ChatGPT and was able to retrieve the Redwood meeting and its summary directly from Otter.

tl;dv’s MCP server starts on Pro and lets ChatGPT or Claude search meetings, pull transcripts and notes, and work across multiple calls.

Otter has the pricing advantage here, while tl;dv ties MCP into a broader multi-meeting analysis workflow.

Notes IA

Both tools generate AI notes and summaries after a meeting.

tl;dv lets you customise AI meeting notes around the information you want to capture, whether that is customer objections, next steps, sales qualification criteria, or another repeatable format.

Otter also supports structured summaries and Custom Meeting Type Templates. These can include a meeting overview, action items, custom prompts, and automated follow-up actions. Custom templates are available across Otter plans, with different usage limits depending on the plan.

Assigner des tâches

This is where tl;dv has more flexibility.

AI tags and bookmarks let you organise important moments around topics that matter across your meetings rather than relying only on the structure of an individual summary. That is useful when the same things keep coming up across customer calls, interviews, research sessions, or sales conversations.

Otter’s templates can extract predefined insights from a conversation, but it does not have a direct equivalent to tl;dv’s AI tags and bookmarks.

Étiquettes IA / Signets

tl;dv provides AI tags and bookmarks on all its plans, so you can use AI to create meeting notes around the topics that matter to you.

Otter offers something similar, called Sales Insights, but only on its Enterprise plan.

Comments and Collaboration

Both tools support collaboration around meeting content.

tl;dv lets teammates comment on and share specific moments from a meeting.

Otter also supports comments and adds Channels for organising shared conversations and discussion.

The difference: Otter is stronger if you want to manage individual action items inside your meeting tool. tl;dv gives you more flexibility for organising, tagging, and reusing meeting insights across the rest of your work.

Conservation des données

Both tools give larger organisations more control over how long meeting data is kept.

Otter Enterprise can set custom retention periods for entire conversations, or separately for recordings and transcripts. Once the retention period expires, that content is deleted automatically.

tl;dv also offers stronger retention and storage controls on Enterprise, while its paid plans are designed for teams that want to keep a longer-term meeting library rather than working within the Free plan’s shorter retention window.

For teams with stricter privacy or EU data-residency requirements, tl;dv has the stronger position here, mainly because meeting data is not used for model training and its infrastructure is built around European data hosting.

Conformité SOC2

Both tools are SOC 2 compliant with a Type II report, which means an independent auditor has checked their security controls over a period of time.

AI Training and Data Handling

Both tools cover the main enterprise security requirements, including SOC 2 Type II and GDPR.

The bigger difference is how meeting data is used for AI.

tl;dv states that customer meeting data is never used to train its AI models. Its security setup also anonymises identifying metadata before AI processing and breaks meetings into small, randomly ordered chunks before sending them to Anthropic. tl;dv stores its data in Europe and now also lets customers choose whether AI processing is hosted in Europe or the US.

Otter uses de-identified recordings and transcripts to train its own models by default. Its third-party AI providers do not use customer data to train their models. Enterprise workspaces are opted out of Otter model training by default, so recordings, transcripts, and notes stay out of Otter’s global training data unless the organisation chooses to opt in.

Legal Scrutiny

Otter is facing a consolidated federal class action over consent and AI training (In re Otter.AI Privacy Litigation, in the Northern District of California). In August 2026, the court allowed several claims to go ahead, including those under California’s privacy law, the federal wiretap law and Illinois’ biometric privacy law, while dismissing others. No court has ruled on whether Otter broke the law. It does mean anyone recording other people with Otter should make sure everyone on the call knows and agrees.

Stockage privé

tl;dv offers private storage on its Enterprise plan, giving large organizations more control over where their data is kept.

Otter doesn’t offer private storage, which matters if your company has strict data residency or security requirements.

Fragmentation et randomisation des données de réunion

tl;dv splits meeting data into small, randomized chunks before AI processes it, which makes it much harder to piece together a full conversation from the data sent to AI providers. Otter doesn’t say whether it does anything similar.

Coaching commercial

tl;dv’s sales coaching tools are built around reviewing real calls and improving performance across a team.

Managers can track how closely reps follow frameworks such as MEDDIC, BANT, SPICED, or their own custom playbook. tl;dv also analyses objection handling, speaker behaviour, and rep performance, so managers can see where someone is struggling and go back to the exact calls behind the score. These features sit on the Business plan.

Otter now has Live Assist on Enterprise. Instead of waiting until after the call, it gives the user private prompts while the conversation is happening. Teams can build Live Assist around their own playbooks, SOPs, past meetings, and internal resources. Otter specifically lists sales discovery and objection handling among its use cases.

Cartes de score alignées sur des playbooks

tl;dv scores calls against a sales playbook, so managers can see how closely each rep followed the process and where they need coaching.

Otter doesn’t offer playbook scorecards. On its Enterprise plan, the Sales Agent can track sales methodologies like BANT during a call and give live tips on handling objections, which helps reps in the moment. It doesn’t score calls afterward for managers to review, though.

Hub de coaching de tl;dv
Hub de coaching de tl;dv

Playbooks personnalisés

tl;dv lets you build your own playbooks around the way your team sells or runs customer calls, so coaching reflects your actual process rather than a generic framework.

Otter doesn’t let you create custom playbooks, so there’s no way to customize coaching around your own methodology or goals.

Modèles de playbooks

tl;dv includes ready-made playbook templates you can adapt, from sales methods like BANT and SPIN to customer success business reviews and management performance reviews. They make it quick to start structured coaching without building everything from scratch.

Otter’s Sales Agent, on its Enterprise plan, can track common sales methodologies like BANT and MEDDIC during a call. It’s limited to sales, though, and doesn’t cover templates for customer success or internal reviews.

Traitement des objections

tl;dv analyzes how reps handle objections in their calls and gives tips on how to respond better, which helps sales and customer-facing teams improve over time.

Otter’s Sales Agent also helps with objections, on its Enterprise plan. It flags objections during the call and gives live tips on how to respond, so reps get help in the moment rather than afterward. If real-time coaching matters most to your team, that’s an advantage for Otter.

Team Recording Controls

Both platforms give admins control over how meetings are recorded and shared across a workspace.

tl;dv admins can set recording and sharing rules across their team, prevent recordings from being deleted, and manage access to team meetings. This is particularly useful when managers need a consistent meeting library for coaching, recurring reports, or customer-call review.

Otter offers similar controls on Enterprise. Admins can set or lock Notetaker auto-join behaviour, manage workspace sharing defaults, restrict external sharing, prevent recordings and transcripts from being deleted, and control which members can use the Notetaker.

Otter’s Enterprise controls have become more granular, but the core difference is plan access: tl;dv provides the main team recording controls within its workspace setup, while Otter reserves most organisation-wide governance controls for Enterprise.

Enregistrement automatique de toutes les réunions dans le calendrier des membres de l'équipe

tl;dv lets admins automatically record every meeting on their team members’ calendars, so nothing gets missed and nobody has to remember to start a recording.

Otter offers the same kind of workspace-wide auto-recording, but only on its Enterprise plan.

Partage automatique des réunions enregistrées par les membres de l'équipe

tl;dv lets admins automatically share recordings made by team members, so the right people can access meeting content without relying on each person to share it manually.

Otter Enterprise admins can also control workspace-wide sharing. They can choose which sharing options members are allowed to use, set the default, and restrict external sharing when needed.

Blocage des suppressions

tl;dv lets admins stop meeting recordings from being deleted, which protects important content from being removed by accident or on purpose.

Otter offers this too, but only on Enterprise, where admins can switch off deletion for everyone in the workspace.

Droits d'administrateur sur tous les enregistrements

tl;dv gives admins control over recordings across the workspace, including access and sharing settings.

Otter Enterprise also has central recording management. Admins can see conversation titles, owners, sharing details and meeting dates, and can manage or delete workspace recordings. They cannot automatically open the transcript or listen to the audio unless the conversation owner has shared it with them.

Filtres intelligents

tl;dv has smart filters across its meetings library, so you can narrow down calls by criteria such as date, participants, keywords, and whether a meeting was internal or external. You can also organise meetings into folders when you want a more permanent structure.

Otter has search filters and folders too, but its library organisation works a little differently. On paid plans, it can now automatically group conversations by Company, giving sales and customer success teams one place to see the meetings associated with a particular customer account. Company views still respect the existing permissions on each conversation.

Channels

Otter also has Channels, which collect shared meetings and transcripts around a team, project, or topic. Team members can run AI Chat across all the conversations inside a Channel, rather than selecting meetings one at a time. Channels can be public or private.

tl;dv takes a more library-based approach. Teams can organise meetings into folders, search across the meeting library, and use filters to find a specific set of calls. Its MCP server also lets ChatGPT and Claude search that library using criteria such as date, keywords, internal or external meetings, and participation.

Free Plans

Both tools have free plans, but they make different trade-offs.

tl;dv gives you unlimited recordings and transcripts, with limits around AI usage and retention. You get AI notes for 10 meetings and 10 Ask tl;dv queries per month.

Otter Basic gives you 300 transcription minutes per month, with a 30-minute limit per conversation. It also includes 20 AI Chat queries per month and access to Otter’s MCP server.

Plans payants

tl;dv Pro costs $18 per user/month when billed annually and removes the AI-note limits. It also adds custom note templates, global search, CRM integrations, API/webhooks, and MCP. Business costs $29 annually and adds features such as playbook monitoring, objection handling, team analytics, recurring AI reports, and sales coaching.

Otter Pro costs $8.33 per user/month annually and adds 1,200 recording minutes, advanced templates, more imports, and Salesforce, HubSpot, and Zapier integrations. Business costs $19.99 annually and adds unlimited in-app meetings, four-hour meetings, custom AI workflows, three concurrent meetings, and prioritized support.

Otter wins on price. tl;dv costs more, but the higher tiers include features aimed more heavily at analysing meetings across a team, including recurring reports, playbook scoring, objection analysis, and post-call coaching.

Deal Analysis and Forecasting

Neither tl;dv nor Otter is a full revenue-intelligence platform in the same category as Gong.

Otter has moved closer to that space on Enterprise. Its Salesforce AI Chat connector combines CRM and meeting data, so teams can ask about closing probability, forecasted ARR, pipeline gaps, at-risk deals, and the status of individual Opportunities. Otter describes this as deal analysis and deal forecasting.

tl;dv focuses more on the conversations feeding those deals. It can capture sales insights from calls, automatically write meeting data into CRM fields, track objections and playbook adherence, and analyse patterns across meetings.

So if you want native Salesforce-based deal analysis, Otter now has the advantage. If you want to understand what is happening inside the calls and feed that information into your CRM and coaching workflows, tl;dv has the broader setup.

Best suited forCustomer-facing teams that need meeting analysis, coaching and automationIndividuals and teams prioritizing live transcription; Enterprise teams using live coaching and connected AI workflows

Both tools work for individuals and teams, but they suit slightly different use cases.

tl;dv is better suited to customer-facing teams that want to do more with meeting data after the call. Its strengths include full video, 30+ transcription languages, recurring analysis across meetings, CRM automation, and post-call coaching around playbooks and objections.

Otter is still a strong option if live transcription and price are your main priorities. Its Enterprise offering now goes further, with Live Assist for in-call coaching, AI Chat Connectors, Salesforce deal analysis, and custom AI workflows.

Both have free plans, but with different limits. tl;dv gives you unlimited recordings and transcripts, while Otter Basic gives you 300 transcription minutes per month and includes MCP and 20 AI Chat queries.

Verdict : tl;dv vs Otter - lequel est le meilleur pour vous ?

For most customer-facing teams, tl;dv is the stronger choice.

It gives you full video recording, support for 30+ languages, recurring AI reports, deeper CRM integrations, and sales coaching built around playbooks and objection handling. It suits teams that want to keep using meeting data after the call, whether that means reviewing conversations, spotting patterns, updating the CRM, or coaching reps.

Otter is cheaper, offers live transcription, and includes MCP on its free plan. Enterprise users also get Live Assist for real-time coaching, plus AI Chat Connectors and Salesforce-based deal analysis.

tl;dv works better if you want to review calls afterwards, compare reps, and coach the team over time. Otter has the advantage if you want AI prompts while the call is happening.

I’d choose tl;dv for teams, including enterprise teams, that want deeper post-meeting analysis, recurring reports, CRM automation, and coaching across large volumes of calls.

I’d choose Otter if live transcription or lower pricing matters more, or if your team specifically wants real-time AI coaching during calls through Live Assist.

FAQs About tl;dv vs Otter

  • tl;dv focuses more on what happens after the meeting, with full video recording, 30+ transcription languages, recurring analysis across calls, CRM automation, and team coaching.

  • Otter is cheaper and has the advantage for live transcription. Its Enterprise plan also includes Live Assist for real-time coaching, AI Chat Connectors, and Salesforce-based deal analysis.

Yes. Otter Basic includes 300 transcription minutes per month, with a 30-minute limit per conversation. It also includes 20 AI Chat queries per month, three lifetime file imports, and access to Otter’s MCP server.

tl;dv’s Free plan includes unlimited recordings and transcripts, with limits on AI usage and recording retention.

Otter transcribes in six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. That’s a big step up from its English-only days, but still far fewer than tl;dv, which transcribes in 30+ languages and offers its interface in 7. For multilingual teams, or meetings that switch languages, tl;dv covers much more ground.

Yes. Otter’s desktop app for Mac and Windows can record meeting audio locally without sending a bot into the call. Its Chrome extension can also record Google Meet directly from the browser without a bot.

tl;dv also supports bot-free recording through its desktop app, alongside its standard bot-based recording option.

Otter may use de-identified recordings and transcripts to improve its own AI models. Enterprise workspaces are opted out of AI model training by default, so their recordings, transcripts, and notes are not used to improve Otter’s global models or third-party LLMs unless the organisation chooses to opt in.

tl;dv does not use customer meeting data to train AI models.

tl;dv is the stronger option for teams that need full video, broader language support, recurring analysis across meetings, CRM automation, and post-call coaching.

Otter is cheaper and better suited to teams that prioritise live transcription. On Enterprise, it also has an advantage for real-time coaching through Live Assist.

Yes. Otter has an MCP server that lets supported AI tools such as ChatGPT access meeting information. In my test, I connected Otter to ChatGPT and retrieved the Redwood meeting and its summary directly.

Otter includes MCP on its free Basic plan, while tl;dv’s MCP server starts on Pro.

Not directly. Otter records the meeting audio and transcript, then can attach video recordings created by Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. The video itself still has to come from the meeting platform.

tl;dv records the meeting video itself, so you can replay the call alongside the transcript without relying on a separate platform recording.
